Once again, Rio de Janeiro holds the world`s largest street festival - Carnaval - from February 25-29. Many pre-Carnaval festivities begin earlier, while the last event, the Champions Parade takes place at the Sambadrome where the Samba Schools with all the contagious gaiety make Carnival unforgettable. There is much more to Carnival than the Samba Parade, though. Street Carnaval is loads of fun, free, and it happens all over the city. You are more than welcome to watch and to participate.
The most important popular festival, it mixes emotions, creativity, plasticity, colors, sounds and many costumes.
People dance with joy and freedom as the contagious carioca spirit affects all who come from different places to visit Rio de Janeiro at carnaval time. So, put on a smile, move your feet, loosen up your arms, turn on that twinkle in your eyes and get into it.
A unique record of mixture that makes up the Brazilian culture. When the time comes for all the merrymakers to be characters in their own play, costume, story, samba. That is carnaval every year.
