The Mamirauá Sustainable Development Reserve is the largest Brazilian protected area (1.124.000 ha) devoted to the conservation of the flooded forest, an eco system which holds much biodiversity and many rare species. It was the first Brazilian conservation unit to give local people a major share of responsibility for the management of its natural resources. Mamirauá is paradise which offers a unique experience to people who are fascinated by nature and are interested in interacting with local people. Thanks to the conservation efforts which began in 1983, Mamirauá has become a wildlife refuge. Among the wildlife attractions, visitors will find endemic species like the white uakari monkey and the black headed squirrel monkey. Mamirauá is also home to other species like the Amazon pink river dolphin, the red howler monkey, the scarlet-macaw and the black cayman. Other amazing creatures found in Mamirauá are the harpy eagle, the jaguar and the umbrella bird. The Uakari Floating Lodge is located inside the Mamirauá Reserve and concentrates eco-tourism activities. The location of the floating lodge has been carefully chosen: it is in a bend in the river with ample opportunities for observing wildlife without leaving the premises.

Gateway Tefé is one-hour flight from Manaus and served by Rico and TRIP airlines on weekdays. The cost of a return ticket (if not using an airpass) is about US$ 225,00. For those with more time it is also possible to travel to Tefé by boat from Manaus. The journey takes up to two days and prices vary by boat and level of comfort. We can provide you with details on request. The Uakari Floating Lodge is at 1 ½ hour scenic and comfortable trip from Tefé. Transfer to the Lodge is in large motor powered boats owned by the Mamirauá project.

Accommodation at the Uakari Floating Lodge is simple, comfortable and has been designed for minimum environmental impact. Its 10 spacious suites are equipped with solar power,natural ventilation and a sewage filtration system.

The restaurant offers a varied menu with plenty of fresh fish, chicken (no red meat), vegetarian food, fruits end regional juices.

The two-floor central unit has a bar, library, video- and conference room.

The Mamirauá ecotourism programme offers a series of activities including excursions with local guides in channels, lakes and trails in the forest; visits to local riverine villages in order to interact and get to know the Amazonian population way of life and also the unique opportunity to contribute to a pioneer conservation project.
